Marsha, This Moss-Bentley thing has bugged me endlessly.Don't know if you have seen this, but if you can figure this one out let me know.

Deed of Trust dated 3 June 1745. “Whereas a marriage is shortly to be solemnized between Thomas Lorton and Eliabeth Moss, widow. Witnesses John Ornsby, Joseph Scott and Edmund Walker. Elizabeth Moss has an estate of 50 pounds, and is desirous that her children by her former husband, to wit, Henry Moss and Diana Moss, may have benefit thereof. The 50 pounds is to be placed in the hands of said Thomas Lorton in trust for her children’s benefit in this manner: 25 pounds when Henry arrives at age 21, and 25 pounds when Diana arrives at age 18; if either die, the other to have it all; if both die, the money to be paid to SAMUEL BENTLEY in trust for said Elizabeth Moss, to be disposed of by her as she sees fit. This agreement in no way is to obstruct said Elizabeth Moss of her dower third of Thomas Lorton’s estate if the marriage is effected, and shoud she survive him.” Amelia County, VA - 1735-1755 Marriage Bonds; Wm. and Mary Qrtly., Vol. 19, No. 3 Transcribed by Kathy Merrill for the USGenWeb Archives Special Collections Project Page 176

Thos Lorton & Elizabeth Moss (widow) June 3d 1745. Norvell Baskervyle as security.
