Martha (Motley) Scott is a part of US Black heritage.

Martha Ella Motley was born in Danville on 18 June1891.[1]

1900 census - 9 years old[2]

1910 census - 18 years old[3]

Martha married Benjamin E. Boswell in Danville on 2 November 1913. They had two daughters that are known, Willie Elizabeth and Catulo. Benjamin died 14 November 1918.

She married William Ira Scott in Danville on 4 September 1919.[4]

About 1924 William, Martha, Delma, Wendell, Guelda, and Elizabeth (Martha's daughter from her first marriage) moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[5]

According to Wendell's recollections to the author of the book Hard Driving, about 1926 William and Martha separated.[5] However, William was recorded on the 1930 U.S. census living in Pittsburgh with Martha, Delma, Guelda, and Elizabeth.

1930 - in Pittsburgh with William[6]

1940 census - back in Danville with William and Guelda.[7]

She passed away in Danville on 6 May 1968. She is buried at Cunningham Cemetery in Danville.[8]
