Biography

Susanana Mohler [Moler/Moulder] was born in September 1767 in North Carolina.[1] Her maiden name is proved by several letters written among relatives. One of the more important was a letter written 2 October 1836 by Jacob Moulder to "Adam Sheeks or sons" "Mauksville or Mauks Old Fields, Roan [Rowan], Co.," The salutation was "Dear Brother and Sister" and mentioned deaths of "mother" and of "Brother Valentine," ["Felty"].[2] In another letter written from "Cammel" [Campbell] County, Tennessee, by Jacob Sheek while visiting relatives back to [his wife] "Sary Sheek," at "Smithgrove, Davie Co., N.C.," on 9 September 1838 he mentioned "uncle Felty Molder," and "Uncle Henry Molder."[3]

Susanna was married about 1784 to Adam Sheek, as their first child was born in 1785. In 1806 she joined the Whitaker's Meeting House of the Mocksville Circuit of the Methodist Episcopal Church South in what is now Davie County. Those church records also indicate she died 2 May 1839.[4] It is likely she and her husband Adam Sheek were buried in unmarked graves at the Whitaker's Meeting House Cemetery, as their son William was later buried in a marked grave there.

A family record of births and deaths also indicates she died 2 May 1839.[5]
