Biography

In the Tewkesbury records, George's name is invariably spelled Morey, Morrey or Morrie.

George Morey married Elizabeth Rogers at Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire on May 18 1573. George's name is spelled "Gorge Morey" and Elizabeth's "Elzabethe Rogers." [1] They had at least six children baptised at Tewkesbury:

  • George (1574) [2]
  • Elizabeth (1575) [3]
  • Thomas (1578) [4]
  • Margaret (1580)[5]
  • Katherine (1583)[6]
  • Edward (1585)[7]

Throughout the 1580s, George was active in church affairs in Tewkesbury, taking on the role of Churchwarden and then bailiff. His last stint as a churchwarden was in 1607. [8]

It appears that George died between 1607 and 1609 when his widow Elizabeth made her will. [9]

Research Notes

In order to identify the children of George Morey I had to comb through the parish register images for Tewkesbury. Several of the baptisms are unindexed and therefore not searchable; and several that are searchable are wildly inaccurate transcriptions.Greet-49 03:47, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

George is noted in a number of trees in roots web. Nothing of value is seen there. His wife was NOT Elizabeth Rogers of Poole, Dorset, whom married Thomas Eyre.

George Mowery may have been married to a woman named Elizabeth (? Rogers) but she was definitely NOT a descendant of Rev John "The Martyr" Rogers. Numerous fraudulent genealogies have been put forth to suggest various Americans are descendants of Rev John Rogers and almost all of then have been debunked.

Mowery-70 and Mowry-406 appear to represent the same person because: same name, birth date , location, death

Mowery-70 and Mowery-156 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, birth, wife, and son.
Why are Mowery-156 and Mowery-70 a rejected match? They look like a clear duplicate.
