William Moyle, James's father, married Alice Rowe in 1822 in Lancashire, England. [12] They had five children in the next 10 years. In January, 1832, William emigrated to the United States on the ship Corvo.[13]Alice followed him in May, 1832 on the ship Pacific bringing their surviving children with her. [14] Many family trees have William's second wife, Jane, as the mother of the children who appear with William in the 1850 Census. However, the eldest woman on William Moyle's 1840 Census was listed as 30-40 years of age. [15] In 1850, Jane is 39, while Alice would have been about 47. Jane 's birthplace is given as Ireland, while Alice Rowe was born in England. So, this profile shows Alice, rather than Jane, as the mother of James (and of all the rest of William's children).
