Born on the North Shore of Auckland. Our family moved around NZ, first to Nelson, then New Plymouth where I started primary school. The majority of my primary and intermediate schooling took place in Gisborne, while high school and undergraduate university education took place in Hamilton.
I then moved to the UK, where I attended graduate school and met and married my wife. We then moved to Canada, and after 5 years it was on to the US. First to California, then to Texas where we spent over 25 years, and where our daughter was born.
We now spend summers in eastern Canada and NZ.
My ancestors largely came to NZ from Europe between the 1840's and 1880's. The table below indicates the surnames at birth of the earliest generation of my immigrating ancestors to arrive in NZ, where they came from and the year they immigrated.

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential.
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.
Add the project tag to your Following list to be kept up to date on any activity that occurs for that project.
