Descendant of Jacob Schmitt. Maria was a maternal granddaughter of Jacob Schmitt, who was one of the three founders of Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois in August 1841, along with Nicholas Adams and Nicholas Frett.
Maria was the daughter of Johann Mueller and Susanna Schmitt.
