Sarah was born in 1836. She was the daughter of Daniel Muir and Ann Gilrye. Sarah married David Galloway, and they had four children: Cecelia, Anne, Grace and George. She is buried in the Muir-Strentzel Hanna Cemetery, Martinez, Contra Costa, California. [1]

Also living with them was a domestic servant, Jennie Wilson, 19.[4]
In 1880, the Galloways lived in Fort Winnebago, Wisconsin. The household included David M.Galloway, 52, a farmer; his wife Sarah, 44, who was experiencing “general debility” that day; their children, all born in Wisconsin, Anna G., 22; J. Celia, 14, in school; and S.V. Gracie, 6, in school.[5]
In 1900, Sarah, a widow, lived with her brother John Muir and his family in Contra Costa County, California.

The household included John Muir, 62, born in Scotland in April 1838, who immigrated in 1844 and was a naturalized citizen, and who owned their house without a mortgage; his wife of twenty years, Louie W., 54, b. Texas, July 1846; Their daughters, Wanda A., 19, b. CA, March 1881, in school; and Helen L., 14,b. CA, Jan. 1886; also, John’s sister, Sarah Galloway, 64, b. Scotland, a widow, who immigrated in 1849. All members of the household could read and write.[6]
