Donald died at the age of 23 on 17 February 1943 in Thorton House, Northallerton, Europe and was buried in Catterick, Yorkshire, England.[3]

He was working in farming when enlisted into the RCAF on 30th October 1940 in Regina, Saskatchewan. On 17th February 1943 he was the pilot of a 401 Squadron aircraft (a Boulton-Paul Defiant, British built fast fighter plane), flying in formation over the Northallerton area when his aircraft and Spitfire W3839 collided at around 14.00hrs over North Otterington. The aircraft crashed in an area around Thornton House and Stubb House and both crews died instantly. He was age 24. Burial: Catterick Cemetery, Yorkshire, England.
