Biography

Betty was born in 1916. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Daisy Dee Muirhead. Obituary: "Betty M. Irving, April 27, 1915 - February 22, 2007, resident of Walnut Creek. Betty Irving died at age 91 after living 56 years in her beloved Walnut Creek home.

Betty Amelia Muirhead was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Her father Archibald died when she was very young and she lived an adventurous childhood with her mother Daisy, siblings Gavin and Ruth, and extended family in various places in Nebraska and Colorado.

She attended Colorado Woman's College and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska. In Los Angeles in 1939, she married Gordon L. Irving, who died in April 2006, having lived to age 96 through her loving care.

She is survived by their three children: Donald Irving and Debera McKinney of Carmel, Jane Irving and her husband Bill Kahn of Maidens, VA, and Anne Irving of Berkeley, her mother's steadfast companion and champion. Three grandchildren, Robert Wise of San Francisco, Daisy Rutstein of Silver Spring, MD, and Jan Irvahn of Portland, OR, also survive, as do her sister-in-law Dorothy Muirhead, a nephew, several nieces, and many cousins.

Betty worked for 22 years in the Walnut Creek Elementary School District Library. She was a member of Walnut Creek First Presbyterian Church and a Golden Star member of PEO, Chapter QC. Walnut Creek.

She loved bringing up her children and enjoyed spending time with all her family. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and she never tired of puttering in her garden, reading a book, or working a crossword puzzle. She lived her life tending others."
