Biography

Claimed losses from Revolutionary War:

Petition to the British Government: "Tedford, Henry of Sussex County, deceased, Memorial by his widow, Gitty/Gertrude (X) Tedford, Shelburne, NS 1786. Her husband served as forman to Major Brewen in New York She was too poor and her family too large to be able to submit a claim before now. Claim for a horse, sawmill and two acres; a gelding; two cows. 13/24/463-463"

Gertrude was born abt 1741. She may have been the daughter of John Milford who d 1786 or Samuel Mulford. There were several Mulford families in New York and New Jersey. Samuel Mulford was b 1701 and died unk.Needs further research.

Gifford Dalley granted "Leave to remove Gurtryde Tillford wife of ---- Tillford and her children to Staten Island ... which said --- Tillford formerly resided in this State and hath lately gone over to the Enemy" [we presume our Gertrude Tedford; husband presumably Henry Tedford, although original does not provide his forename].

Gertrude was definitively the daughter of Samuel Mulford, of New Brunswick, New Jersey. Stated in 1762 probate arbitration bond. See:
