Letter written by Edward Benjamin Mulholland and given to me by Helen (Miller) Wilson. I was born in Mo. - 1850 - Moved to Oregon 1852 - lived there til July 1876 & then started to Arizona. My father, brothers & Uncle & families were with me - We had about 400 cattle & 50 horses - We passed thru Winnemucca, Nev. and from there by way of Austin to Peranugut Valley. There we laid over two mo. to rest. Leaving there we headed for the Virgin river & followed it down to the Colorado. - We had to swim the stock but our wagons were ferried on Stone's ferry which was a short distance above the mouth of the Virgin. We headed for Prescott but the party stopped at Oaks & Willows so I went on to Verde - arrive Nov. 1877. 1st ranch rented 1/2 mile below Cottonwood filed on place on Oak Creek 1/2 mile below Page Spring - I was first man to take out irrigation ditch - Family was wife & Virgie, Eddie was born Oak Cr. farm 1880.
