MRS. J. ELLEM

CASINO, Friday.

Mrs. Isabella Ellem, aged 78 years, wife of Mr. James Ellem, of South Casino, died in a private hospital in Casino last night.

The deceased, who had been a highly respected resident of the district for many years, was born at Nundle, near Tamworth, her father being the late John. Mulligan, a wheelwright and blacksmith in that district and who also followed the same occupation at Grafton for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Ellem, who had been farming on the Clarence, came to this district about 1902 and settled at Bruton. They later removed to Piora, where they resided until their retirement in recent years, when they took up residence with a daughter, Miss I. Ellem, in Diary-street, South Casino. The widower is 82 years of age.

A family of five sons and five daughters survive. The sons are: Messrs. Francis James, Roland Clarence, Clifford, Eric Grafton, Roy Sylvester Ellem, all of whom reside at Edenville, in the Kyogle district. Two other sons, Boyd and David Ellem, were killed in action in the war, and another son, John, died in infancy.

The daughters are: Mesdames Percy Brewer (Gundurimba), A. E. Murray (Mummulgum), Alex. McQueen (Kyogle), G. E. Cole (Casino), and Miss Ivy Ellem (South Casino).

Mr. W. J. Mulligan, a prominent grazier, of Grafton, who played a big part in launching the Nymboida hydro electric scheme, and Mr. R. Mulligan, of O.B.X. Creek, on the Grafton-Glen Innes road, are brothers of the deceased; her sisters are Misses Agnes and Margaret Mulligan, of O.B.X. Creek.

The funeral will leave the Church of England, Casino, after a service at 2 p.m. to-morrow for the local cemetery.

MRS. JAMES ELLEM

CASINO, Monday.

The funeral of Mrs. James Ellem, of South Casino, which took place on Saturday afternoon, was largely attended. St. Mark's Church of Eng land was crowded for the service, at which the Rev. Archdeacon Benyon, the Rev. Reid (Casino) and the Rev. James (Kyogle) officiated.

The pall-bearers at the church were Messrs A. McQueen, P. C. Brewer, A. Murray, James Cole (sons-in-law), Alex. Ellem, and Ron. Ellem (grandson), while the pall bearers at the graveside were the five sons of the deceased and Rowan Brewer (grandson). Trevor D. Bevan had charge of the funeral arrangements
