Please do not add only a 'url' for any site, especially from Scotlands People site. The Scotlands People url is not static and cannot be accessed, so it becomes a bad link for others to correct. You added it to Penman-1907 with no other information, so no one knows what it was supposed to be a source for. Adding a url only is not a source citation.
On the same profile, you added a table for a marriage record with no source citation or even a url. It only says family search, which is also not useful. Also, Scotland project does not want tables on profiles so please do not add tables to profiles that have Scotland locations.

Please review Sourcing Examples for Scotland project - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Scotland_-_Sourcing_Help?#Example_Citations_Specific_to_Scotland

Linda PC for Scotland Project

HI Linda,

I'm quite aware of the issue with static URLs on sources, the Scotland's people references were simply placeholders until i was able to obtain a familysearch reference. I will update these references as per your sourcing guide as familysearch does not show quite a few things that are on scotlandspeople.

I will point out that a good chunk of the scotlandspeople references. specifically the children of the marrage were actually added by the other profile manager Elizabeth Russon

All the tables were actually sourced last night, so not sure when you viewed this profile, although these were from Ancestry which isn't the best but does go to the correct place...at least for now.

I appreciate that the Scotland project does not want tables on the profiles, I add them as a personal preference and will be leaving them on my profiles, however, they have been moved under Research Notes. I will refrain from adding any tables to profiles where i am not the profile manager,

If you have any tips on sourcing the scotlandspeople references from other sites, please let me know, i would much rather they were not behind a paywall

Peter

When people add urls from Scotlands People site to profiles, they generate suggestions for PMs, as well as projects. In this case, the Scotland Project sees these suggestions because there is at least one location that has Scotland. We are trying to work through these suggestions to correct them info full citations on all profiles. You will not necessarily find a family search or ancestry source for everything on Scotlands People.

When sources are added to profile, they should be complete citations, not urls from any site. Ales is in the process of reviewing all urls in all profiles and has now created thousands of Suggestions because urls no longer work from many sites, some because they have changed the location of information and some because the site is no longer found. IF full source citation were added, instead of just a url, then it makes it easier to try to find another source / link for the information, but when only a url is entered, no one knows what site was used or what information was found at that time.

I am not sure who or what you are talking about. Penman-1907 was a profile created by you on Aug 2, not by someone else. There is one child linked to that profile that you also created. There are 11 children linked to that profile, which look like they were created by you, not someone else. I did not see a 2nd PM on any of those profiles.

My earlier message shows when I posted it, about 8 hours ago, which is when I looked at the profile. When I looked at the profile, it had 'https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/record-results/156358706264cae046e1c4d' which does not do anything, other than give a error message because the link has expired, so that is not helpful and is not considered sourced. It looks like you have now replaced the Scotlands People link with the family search citation, as of 2 hours ago.

If you added sources to tables, maybe you mean on some other profiles, other than the Penman one that I referenced above. You also reference ancestry, so again, I am not sure what profiles you are referring to since this profile now has a family search citation on it, not ancestry.

Sourcer app will create a fairly good narrative and citation with Scotlands People information. There is a PDF attached to that Sourcing Help page which has the Preferences by the project on how to set the options in the Sourcer app.

Unfortunately, Family Search does not have all items found on Scotlands People, but nor does Ancestry. Family Search used to have some Scotlands People census and other sources, but some of them have disappeared in the last year.

If the Sourcing guide is used with Scotlands People, you will have all the pertinent information needed for others to find the same source. Make sure that the 'Name' and parents are included, as spelled, in the index because that is critical in finding the information on the site.

Hope this helps.

Linda PC for Scotland Project

Hi Linda, thanks for the reply.

Seems i was getting confused with another Penman profile.

I believe i understand now what you are asking so I will update my sources.

Hello,

Thank you for all the work that you have done for the England Project. As you have not responded to our recent check in we are assuming that you wish to leave the project. We hope that you will want to re-join us sometime in the future. You can do this by responding to our G2G post. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1350343/do-you-want-to-become-an-england-project-member-in-2022

Hi Peter,

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's six-monthly check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.

If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.

If we do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we will assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.

Many thanks!

Hi Peter,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project

Peter, I've found another one of yours that needs fixing. Could you please have a look at John Mcleod-4165.

This profile has some minor typographical errors that are raising database error messages, but we are not able to correct them as you have the profile locked.

Could you please either unlock it, correct the errors or add me to the trusted list and I'll correct them.

Hi Peter,

I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the goals of the England Project during the past six months. We've achieved a huge amount during this period and we couldn't have done it without you and our other project members.

As the England Project Leaders, we are completing our six monthly check-in with all project members.

Are you happy to stay in your current project team(s)? Which team(s) are you most active in? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Peter,

We've not yet received a reply from you regarding the message we recently sent about the England Project. We hope you're okay! We realise that your interests may have moved on, however, and so of we don't hear from you by the end of December we'll presume that you wish to be removed from the Project. Of course, you'll be welcome to rejoin us at a later time if you wish :)

Hi Peter,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Amy, Joan & Lizzie.

Hi Peter,

Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. Thank you for all your work on English Profiles and in particular your work in County Durham and Categories Teams.

These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice, or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the Project Leaders for everything you do.

Hi Peter

I am just checking in with you as a member of the County Durham & Tyne and Wear Team. We are entering the last 8 days of the England regional go Green Challenge reducing the suggestions, unsourced and unconnected numbers. On the 13th the Northern Region were in the lead for the challenge with drop of 16,728!

As your regional cheer leader - I am encouraging everyone to go go go

Hi Peter,

I haven’t heard back from you about the break up of the United Kingdom Project. I hope all is well with you. I assume you don’t wish to join any of the country-level projects at present, and will go ahead and remove the United Kingdom badge. If you wish to join England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland in the future, you would be most welcome to do so via the respective G2G sign-up post.

Many thanks for all your contributions,

Susie :-)

Hi Peter,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Peter

On behalf of the England Project Leaders we're carrying out a check-in to see how all the members are doing and taking the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work over the past six months. We have been so impressed with the way everyone has rallied together and gone the extra mile to make this one of the most dedicated, productive and friendly communities on WikiTree. What are you enjoying most about being in the project? What would you like to see improved or changed? Would you like to continue in the project moving forwards?

Hi Peter,

I’m working with Eowyn to check-in with everyone holding the Project Coordinator badge to make sure we have the most up-to-date information. As a Project Coordinator badge holder, please can you let me know which project(s) you are currently coordinating and if you have a specific role as coordinator in those projects?

Many thanks,

Hi Peter may I join the Irish project
