Solomon Mullis Sr. was born 1760-65 per his census record, as was his brother John "Jackson." During those years their father John Mullis is found in records of Orange Co. N. C. living on "Mullis Branch" of Robinson Creek. In the 1820 Anson Co. census, Solomon "Senior" and Solomon "Junior" were next door to each other, and In 1837 Solomon Sr. deeded land to his namesake in Anson Co., so he was living at that time. His son Solomon Jr. was in Pulaski Co. Ga. census of 1850 and 1860 (in possession of slaves in 1850 and 1860) where he died in March of 1870. Solomon Sr.'s brother John "Jackson" also had a son named Solomon, according to his probate record filed in 1848 Union Co., and he remained in that county through his death in 1884 at age 91. He was the only Solomon of the three to be found in records as Solomon R., e.g. Union Co. census 1850-1880. Jacob Mullis of Union Co. was also a son of John "Jackson" rather than Solomon Sr. An extremely important source document for the children of Solomon Sr. and his brother John "Jackson" is available in the latter's probate record filed in Union Co. in 1848. Several of the children commonly attributed to Solomon Sr. or James "Marshall" were actually John "Jackson's" children. Many online profiles report Solomon R. was the son of Solomon b. 1760, which was not the case nor was he the son of James "Marshall" (see his profile in Wikitree). If their ancestor was Solomon R. of Union Co., their actual ancestor was John "jackson" b. 1760-65 who died in Dec. 1831.
In this profile, Jacob Mullis was a son of Solomon Sr., which is not the case. Jacob was a son and heir of John "Jackson" Mullis according to his 1848 Union Co. probate record.
Spouse: Mary Jane (Griffin) Mullis
Children:
Per Anson Co. census of 1830, Solomon was born 1760-65. He was the son of John Mullis. [6]
John Mullis was in Orange Co. N. C. in 1755, with indications he had dwelled there for some time, being a juror in a murder trial in that year. He was there in 1761 assigned Road Poll Duty by the court, also applying for a Granville Land Grant in 1762. He lived in a portion of Orange which became Chatham Co. in 1771, and the year following he served in the Chatham Co. Militia as did three of his sons-in-law: Thomas Griffin, Jacob Pyburn and Wm. Stewart. He was recorded doing Road Poll Duty in 1774, and a land transfer document referenced Mullis Branch in 1777.
Solomon had a namesake son born 1795, and they are recorded next door to one another as "Solomon Sr. and Solomon Jr. in the Anson census of 1820. This happened again in an Anson Co. land deed in 1837, and he was apparently deceased prior to the 1840 census. By 1850 Solomon jr. was in the Pulaski Co. Ga. census where he died in March 1870.
There are no Mullis records in Essex Co., Va. Probate record of John (Jackson) Mullis filed in 1848 Union Co. NC.
According to his 1830 Anson Co. census record, Solomon was born 1760-65. He passed away after deeding land to his namesake in 1837 and before the 1840 census. His other children included Charles b. 1787, William b. 1785, and Francis b. c. 1790. Sons Solomon and William went to Pulaski Co. Ga. where they are found in the 1850 census. Another Solomon, the only one in the family recorded with middle initial R., was a son of John "Jackson," Solomon Sr.'s brother, and he remained in Union Co. NC in census 1850 through 1880.
