Research Notes

There were three Solomons in the Mullis family of Anson Co. North Carolina. 1) Solomon Mullis Sr. (aft.1760-aft.1837) Sr. b. 1760-65 and his son, 2) Solomon Jr. b. 1795, and 3) Solomon R. b. 1792/3 who was the son of John Jackson Mullis (1806-1880). Solomon Sr. and Jr. were next door to one another in the 1820 Anson census, and in 1837 as Sr. and Jr. a deed was transferred between them. In 1820 census, the third Solomon was recorded as Solomon "Mulice," and he turned out to be the son of John "Jackson;" he administered his father's estate which was in probate court of Union Co. in 1848. That Solomon remained in Union Co. N. C. through his death after the census of 1880; he was the only Solomon of the three to have the middle initial R. consistently from the 1850 thru 1880 census. Solomon Mullis (abt.1794-1870) Jr. son of Solomon Sr. was in Pulaski Co. Ga. from 1850 census through his death in March 1870. In 1850 this Solomon owned two slaves, a number which grew to twelve by 1860. Solomon R. Mullis remained in Union Co. through his death in February 1884, age 91 per obituary notice in Raleigh.

Mullis-805 and Mullis-221 appear to represent the same person because: possible duplicates
posted by Cari (Ebert) Starosta
There were two Solomon Mullises born c. 1794/95 in Anson Co. N. C. One was Solomon R., son of John "Jackson" Mullis per his probate record, who remained in Union Co. throughout his lifetime. The other was son of Solomon b. 1760-65 per census (NOT Solomon R.), they were listed next door to one another as Solomon Sr. and Jr. in the 1820 Anson census, with the other Solomon (R) recorded as "Mullace" in the same census. Whereas Solomon R. was yet living in 1880 Union census, his cousin Solomon "Jr." was the Solomon who died 1870 in Pulaski Co. Ga. John "Jackson's" probate record is published in Ancestry.com, in which his heirs are named, including sons William, Jacob, John and Solomon--who turns out being the Solomon R. of 1880. It seems pretty certain that the name of Solomon originated in the family of Margaret Brumbelow, wife of John Mullis (b. 1719 Lancaster Co., Va. d. pre 1790 Anson) and mother of John "Jackson" and Solomon, both born 1760-65 per 1830 Anson census. According to two of John "Jackson's" sons, Jacob and Solomon R., he was born in North Carolina per 1880 Union census record, and between 1755 and 1772, John Mullis is found in the records of Orange Co. N. C., father of Solomon and John "Jackson" both of whom were b. 1760-65 per their Anson Co. census records.
