Biography

Felix Mumenthaler was born in 1772 in Langenthal, Bern, Switzerland. Baptised Aug. 3 (his record doesn't show birth date, but it was probably around the end of July).
There are several Mumenthalers families in Langenthal.

Langenthal Baptism Records:
Joh. Felix, bapt. Aug 3, 1772, son of Joh. Felix Mumenthaler and Anna Barb. Gerig [1] [These parents had an older son named Jacob Friedrich, 1768-1829 and a daug. Anna Elisabeth, b 1770]

His father died sometime before 1807 (before Felix III married).

He married Barbary Ann Hermann who was born in Signau, Bern, Switzerland in 1787.
Langenthal Marriage Records:
1807, Sept 16 - Felix Mumenthaler (son of Joh.) and Anna Barbara Herrmann[2]

in Nov 1807 they had a daughter, Rosina. (bapt Nov 29, 1807)[3]

They had 2 children (Rosian-1807 & Felix-1809) before coming to the US and one (Jacob Jr) was born on the way ("at sea") in Feb 1819. [Jacob's grandson, Alonzo, said on the 1920 census that his father, Jacob (Jr), was born at sea (Feb 6, 1819), so they must have been on their way to Pennsylvania at that time.]

His last name Mumenthaler was changed to Momenteller when they arrived in the US in 1819.
Every Momenteller in the US (there are very few of them) are all descended from this one man.

Felix's daughter Rosian named a son Jacob Momenteller, and her son named a son Felix Momenteller.
His son Jacob named sons Jacob and Alonzo Felix.
His daug Lucetta named a son John Momenteller for her father and father-in-law.

Daughter Lucetta was born in Philadelphia in 1822 and twin daughters Mary Ann & Louisa were born in PA in 1829. Oldest daug, Rosina, was married probably in Paulding Co, OH in 1828. But father Felix seems to have died back in Switzerland in Dec 1828.

His mother died in Nov 1827 in Langenthal, Switz.

About Sept-Oct, 1828 he left his family and a newly-pregnant wife in Philadelphia and traveled back to Switzerland to see about sick family or take care of family business. (Since his wife had twin daughters born in June 1829 his could not have left America before early Sept, 1828.)
His mother had died the year before in Nov, 1827 and it appears that his only brother was sick.
Felix died (surely unexpectedly) Dec 15, 1828 in Langenthal, Switzerland. His brother Friedrich died 3 months later, Mar 8, 1829.

There is a death record[4] in Langenthal, Switzerland for Johann Felix Mumenthaler, age 56 yrs, 3 mos, died Dec 15, 1828 (this would make him born Sept 1772. If he was 56 yrs and 4 mos, then it would be Aug 1772). The record (at right) says:

Johann Felix Mumenthaler
Felixen, von hier (from here--Langenthal), ein Ehemann (a husband, meaning his wife was alive)
died 15 Dec 1828, age of 56 years, 3 months (buried 18 December)

Sometimes a Swiss home town would record a death that occurred somewhere else, but this record doesn't say it was somewhere else, and usually it does note that.

In the 1830’s Felix's family moved from Phildelphia to Carroll County, Ohio (formed in 1832).

In 1850 Barbary was living with her daughter Barbary Morledge in Brown twp, Carroll Co, OH.
