Biography

Adam Mummert has German Roots.

Edward "Adam," son of Samuel Mummert and Catharine Elizabeth Wildasin, was born 16 September 1858 in Penn Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[1][2] Interestingly, his mother was also his aunt—her first husband was his uncle Peter Baublitz Mummert, who died in 1856,[3] leaving four children.

In 1860 the blended family was living in Heidelberg Township, York County.[4] It was composed of his parents Samuel (age 23, farmer) and Catherine (25), Adam Edward (1), his brother Henry William (10 months) and his half-siblings Louis (6) and Anna Mummert (4).[4]

By 1880 the growing family had moved to Penn Township, where the household included his parents Samuel (age 42, farmer) and Catherine Mummert (45), Adam Edward (21. laborer), his siblings Henry William (20. laborer), Michael (15), Daniel (14), Charles Wildasin (11), Sarah (9), Lydia (7), Albert Hoover (5) and his half-brother Lewis (25. laborer).[5]

On 17 October 1897 in Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania, he married Emmaline Elizabeth Naumann,[6] daughter of John Naumann and Mary Ann Goodfellow.[7] (His brother Charles also married a Naumann sister of his wife (Mary Catherine).} Adam and Emma had no children.

After his mother's death in 1890,[8] his father took up residence with various children. In 1900 Adam (age 42, farmer) and his wife Emma (41) lived with his father Samuel (62, landlord) in Penn Township.[1] His father Samuel went to live with Adam's sister Lydia[9] prior to his death in 1911.[10]

The couple remained childless in Penn Township in 1910 and 1920.[11][12] Adam (age 51/61) labored at odd jobs, while Emma E. (52/61) kept house.[11][12]

Adam died 22 June 1926 in Parkville, Penn Township, and was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover.[2]
