Biography

Michael Mummert has German Roots.

Michael, son of Samuel Mummert and Catharine Elisabeth Wildasin,^[1] was born 22 September 1864 in York County, Pennsylvania.^[2] He grew up in Penn Township, York County, where his father cultivated the land with the help of his sons. In 1880, the household consisted of his parents Samuel (age 42) and Catherine Mummert (45), Michael (15), his half-brother (and cousin) Lewis (25. laborer), and his siblings Adam Edward (21. laborer), Henry William (20. laborer), Daniel (14), Charles Wildasin (11), Sarah (9), Lydia (7) and Albert Hoover (5).^[3]

On 2 May 1886 in Hanover, York County, he married Emaline Trone;^[1] daughter of Adam Trone and Lydia Snyder.^[1] Michael and Emma had four children:

• Ralphus Sylvester (b. ~31 October 1887; d. 14 April 1888).^[4]

• Curvin Liberius (b. 3 April 1889;^[5][6][7] m. Ada Catherine Harner;^[8] d. 21 December 1973).^[7]

• Arthur Michael (b. 6 December 1893;^[9][10][11] m. Hilda Grace Bollinger;^[12] m. Mary R. Clingan;^[13] d. 15 January 1978).^[11]

• Edna May (b. 14 August 1898;^[14] m. Luther Warner Epley;^[15] d. 5 June 1991).^[14]

For at least a short time, Michael and Emaline lived in Maryland, because their son Curvin was born there.^[16][17]

In 1900 Michael (age 35) was farming on rented land in Union Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, to support his wife Emaline (39) and children Curvin L. (11, farmhand), Arthur M. (7) and Edna M. (2), and a hired hand James M. Doler (18).^[16] Emma reported that she was the mother of four children, three living in 1900.^[16]

By 1910 the family had moved to Germany Township, Adams County, to a farm Michael had purchased.^[17] The family still was composed of Michael (age 45, farmer), Emeline (48), Curvine L. (21, farmhand), Auther E. (16, farmhand) and Edna M. (11).^[17]

Curvin married in 1919,^[8] which reduced the household in 1920 in Germany Township to Michael (age 55, farmer), Emaline (58), Arthur (26, farmhand) and Edna M. (21).^[18]

Michael died 4 March 1921 and was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Littlestown, Adams County.^[2]
