William was born about 1912. He was the son of William Munday and Catherine Harris. He passed away in 1943. [1]

William John Munday was born on October 28, 1910 (not found in BDM, VIC. NSW, QLD.) He was the only son of William Simpson Munday, 1887-1959 and Catherine May (Harris) Munday, 1889-1977. He travelled to England and met and married Mary Simone Simon, 1914-2008 in March, 1939 at Marylebone, Middlesex, UK. ( England and Wales Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1916-2005. Vol 1a, Page no. 1045.) As husband and wife, they left England on April 26, 1940 aboard P&O "Strathmore" to travel back to Sydney, Australia. Their son William David Munday was born in 1941.

William John Munday was an Australian War Correspondent with the Sydney Morning Herald. He was killed near Salerno, Italy during fierce fighting with the Germans, following an Allied advance by Commonwealth and American forces on September 28th, 1943. His service number was B408 and was Mentioned in Despatches. He is buried at the Salerno War Cemetery amongst the Commonwealth War Dead, His Grave/Memorial Reference is: II. D. 24. He was 30 years old.
