Francis Mundy was born in Hampshire, England.

Francis was born in 1878, his birth being registered at Andover, Hampshire in the last quarter of that year^[1]. He was the son of Seth Mundy and Lucy Hamblin.

In the UK Census of 1891, Francis (12 and a Cow Boy) was still living with his father Seth (42 and a Carpenter), his mother Lucy (49) and his three siblings William (14), Edwin (9 and a Scholar) and Lucy (7 and a Scholar) at the Village, Abbotts Ann, Andover, Hampshire, England. Also in the household was 29 year old Lodger, George King, employed as a Gardeners Labourer.

His father Seth passed away in 1898 at the age of 50. His mother Lucy passed away in 1903 at the age of 60.

At the age of 28 Francis married Edith Redfern on 15 December 1906 at Christ Church, Leyton, Essex, England^[2].

They had at least two sons:
