Matilda Eliza Munn was born 8 November 1829 at Brighton, County Sussex, England. Her parents were Thomas Munn and Matilda. She was baptised at the Countess of Huntington's Chapel, North Street, Brighton on 25 April 1830. This was a non-establishment Church caled the Countess of Huntington's Connection.[1]

In the 1851 English Census Matilda Munn, aged 21 born Brighton Sussex, is employed as a housemaid in the household of Hannah Ford, 'Lady', at 47 Breen Square, Hove, Sussex. Matilda is one of six servants.[2]
In the 1861 English Census, Matilda Munn, aged 30 born Brighton Sussex, is employed as a Nursemaid in the household of Henry Dixon, 'Landholder Magitrate', at Frankham House Wadhurst, Sussex. There are five other servants in the household.[3]
On 4th, 11th and 18th October 1868, Banns of Marriage between Horace Wallis of the Parish of Streatham and Matilda Munn of the Parish of Wadhurst were published[4].

Horance Wallis and Matilda Munn were married at St Leonards, Parish of Streatham in the County of Surrey, on 21 November 1868[6].

In the 1871 English Census Horace Wallis, Domestic Servant Gardener, his wife Matilda, and son Walter W Wallis are living at Holly Grove, Streatham[7].
The 1881 English Census has Horace and Matilda Wallis, and sons Walter and Frederick Wallis living at Leigham Court Road, Upland Stables, Streatham, London. Horace is still employed as a Domestic Gardener[8].

In the 1891 English Census Horace and Matilda and sons Walter and Frederick are living at Buceleuch Road, Lambeth, London[9].
In the 1901 English Census Horace and Matilda Wallis are living at Berbice Cottage, Buceleuch Road, Lambeth, London. Living with them is son Frederick, his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Lilian. Visitor George Bryant is also recorded (the brother of Elizabeth).[10].
