Author. He was born Hector Hugh Munro in Burma (now Myanmar), but he was brought up in England. His works were published under the pen name 'Saki', who was the cupbearer in The Rubayat of Omar Khayyam, an ancient Persian poem. His stories often satirize the Edwardian social scene and included coded references to homosexuality, despite he was anti-semite and reactionary. He was killed by a sniper's bullet on the Western Front at the battle of Beaumont-Hamel (France). His last words, according to several sources, were: "Put that damned cigarette out!" He is remembered for his books "The Chronicles of Clovis," "Beasts and Super-Beasts," "The Toys of Peace," "The Square Egg and Other Sketches" and "Not-So Stories."
