Biography

Birth

Harrison Munsel was born in 1823 in New York, United States to Ira Munsel (1790-1857) and Sarah Vilaty (1791-1842).

There are only a few records with his name. He spent his early childhood on the farm in Hamilton County, Illinois after his parents moved there from New York before 1827 when he was 4 years old. His mother died when he was 21 in September 1842. His father married Martha Patsy Kitchen in March 1844 giving Harrison a new stepmother.

There is a census for Illinois State on 3 July 1855 which is tally only and Harrison is still there. The census itself is mostly covered by ink stain, but name of head of household and total numbers are discernible.

By Aug 1860 his father has died leaving stepmother Martha as head of household with two of her stepsons, Harrison 37 and Jackson 25 here to work the farm along with her own children by Ira: Jacob 15 who also farms, Tabitha 14, Sarah V. 12, Rebecca 11, Annis 9, Elizabeth 7, Joseph 6 and Samuel 4.

This is the last record found for him.Scott-8685 16:43, 17 January 2014 (EST)There are records available for another Harrison born about the same time in New York who resides in Wisconsin with a wife and children; however, that Harrison has censuses available in Wisconsin when this Harrison is named on a census in Illinois several times. They are definitely not the same men.Scott-8685 16:43, 17 January 2014 (EST)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Harrison by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Harrison:

PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE the placement of the reference and footnote notations. 1/2 of the census data and other is lost if you do. No rule that I know of that says you have to have no space between "Sources" and References or can't have footnotes. And yes, I have read the "Help" page. Thank you.
