Alfred was a cricket bat maker in Shoreditch for over twenty years. [4]

The 1901 census (the final one on which he would appear) shows that he and his family have moved to the middle-class residential area of Wood Green.[5]
Alfred died in 1907 at the comparatively young age of 45. [6]
