Research Notes

Her brother is listed as a grandson in William Cook’s house in 1861 and 1871. She and a sister, Elizabeth, are listed as granddaughters in William Cook’s house in 1881. It looks like the same William Cook, judging from the age, birthplace, and relationship to the Murdens. It seems like a pretty big coincidence, if these are lookalikes.

  • “England and Wales Census, 1881," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27C-8ZZG : 11 December 2017), Harriet Murden in household of William Cook, Fen Stanton, Huntingdonshire, England; from "1881 England, Scotland and Wales Census," database and images, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : n.d.); citing p. 33, Piece/Folio 1608/97, The National Archives, Kew, Surrey; FHL microfilm 101,774,487.

With the daughters, I also found them listed in censuses with parents—Henry Murden and Jane (Cook) Murden: [1]

That same William Cook, listed as the children’s grandfather, did have a daughter Jane of the right age and birthplace. I know it is the same William, because his wife and his other children were still living in the house when George Murden came to live with them by 1861. See:
