Bridget was born on 22 March 1883 in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales. She was the daughter of John Murphy and Catherine Murphy.[1]
In the 1891 census Bridget was living in Canton, Glamorgan, with her parents John (50) and Catherine (40). Also in the household are her siblings Catherine (22), Mary (20), Thomas (15), William J (10), and Johanna (5).

Ten years later, Bridget is working as a servant in the Barnett household in St John. [3]
