Biography

Ida Mary Murphy was born on 22 May 1868 in St. Charles, St. Charles County, Missouri, USA. She was the daughter of John Riley Murphy (aft.1842-abt.1879) and Emily (Inlow) Murphy (abt.1848-). [1]

Ida M. Murphy married Stephen B. Hermsen on 2 April 1889 in St. Charles County, Missouri, USA. The couple had the following children: [1]

  1. Adele M. Hermsen, 1892–1924
  2. Mabel Estella Hermsen, 1892–1989
  3. Mildred A. Hermsen, 1897–1940
  4. Viola Frances Hermsen, 1900–1939
  5. Gerald Stephen Hermsen, 1904–1983

Around 1900 the Hermsen family left Missouri and moved to Indiana. They were recorded on the 15 April 1910 US Census as living in a house they owned on New Jersey Street, ED 200, Indianapolis Ward 11, Marion County, Indiana, USA. Stephen Hermsen was 44 and Ida (Murphy) Hermsen was 41 years old. Their 5 children were all living with them. Stephen Hermsen was an "Upholsterer: Owns Shop," while their 2 oldest daughters were "Office Stenographers". The others were "In School". Ida was the home-maker. The Census also recorded that the couple had been married for 22 years and that Ida had had 6 children, 5 of whom were still living in April 1910.[2]

Ten years later, as "Ida Hernsen," she was recorded as 51 years old, married to "Stephen Hernsen," age 52, both born in Missouri. They were living with 3 children: Adele, 25; Viola, 19; and Gerald, 15 years old, in a rented house on Chestnut St., Louisville Ward 12, ED 233, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA. Stephen now called himself an "Interior Decorator" and their 2 daughters were both "Office Clerks". [3] Later they returned to Indianapolis.

Ida (Inlow) Hermsen passed away on 16 September 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. She was 58 years old. No Find A Grave Memorial has been found for her. [1]
