FITZGERALD, Mary (nee Murphy).
The Orange Leader: 18 Mar 1905: Death of Mrs. J. Fitzgerald. [1]
We regret to have to record the death of Mrs J. Fitzgerald which occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Graham in East Orange yesterday. Deceased was 82 years of age, she was a native of Ireland and sailed for Australia in the Victoria Ann in the year 1841. She married in 1844 and had a family of 13, seven of whom survive her viz Mesdames Foster; Eyles; Graham (Orange) and Lyons (Sydney) and Messrs M. Fitzgerald (Albury) and P and J. Fitzgerald Girilambone. There are 51 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren also surviving. Her husband predeceased her some six years ago. Mrs Fitzgerald lived in Orange for 40 years and with her wide family connections was practically part and parcel of the place. Active and vivacious she, in years past when Orange was young and everybody knew everybody, was the most popular lady of her day. Even to the last her bright Irish wit never failed her and she was always good company. The loss of such an one must be tempered by the fact that the departed had outlived the allotted span and more then done her duty, yet we sympathise with those who sorrow. The funeral takes place to-day leaving the R.C. Church at 10 o'clock. 1
