On 8 March 1884 Charles Daniel Murphy was born in New Zealand to Mary and Denis Murphy. [1]

A Wife Who Was Deserted.
Margaret Murphy then sought to have Charles Daniel Murphy thrown into the waste-paper basket, on the grounds of desertion. They shouldered their little load in 1911, at Hawera, and then lived at Opunake, where her husband worked as a laborer. In 1913 that tired feeling came over Charles Daniel, and he ordered Maggie out of the house. She returned to Petone and lived with her mother. Her husband had agreed in the court to pay her 15s a week for her support, but he had never paid a penny. His Honor: "You were very foolish. Why didn't you make him pay the money or go to gaol?" The usual decree, and in three months Maggie, will be free to try again.
In August 1918 he was balloted for war service. He lodged a request for exemption due to farming commitments in Opunake, Taranaki, and was given a temporary exemption until November. World War II ended in November 1918.
On 6 December 1918 Maude Agnes Stephens and Charles Daniel Murphy were married. [6]

MURPHY. —On September 4, (suddenly), at his residence, Drouin South, Charles Daniel Murphy, dear husband of Maude, and loving father of Rita. (Mrs. Dengselder, Ravenswood), Roy (Australian Imperial Force, dec.), Rona (Mrs. J. Miller, Ripplebrook), and Jack (Royal Australian Navy, dec.), Ivan and Noel.
Maude lived in the McMillan district, Victoria from 1949 until her death in 1968.
Charles and Maude are buried together in the Drouin Cemetery.
