Daniel was born in 1841. He was the son of Owen Murphy and Mary Drinan.
He arrived in Sydney on Oct 3, 1864 aboard the "Sirocco"(2), aged 23, from Kinsale, County Cork.[1]

He passed away in 1926,[10] and he was buried at Campbells Hill (RC D7,57).[11]
Mr. Daniel Murphy, an old and esteemed resident of the Maitland district, died on the 24th ult., at the residence of his son, Mr. Patrick Murphy, Louth Park, at the age of 81 years. A native of Ballinacura, Kinsale, Ireland, he came to this State in 1864, and worked for about 15 years on the Kaludah Estate, Lochinvar, and afterwards devoted his attention to farming pursuits in the Dagworth district. His wife died 19 years ago, and he is survived by six sons, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His funeral, which was largely attended, took place on the 26th ult., the Rev. Father M. Fitzgerald officiating at St. John's Cathedral and at the grave in Campbell's Hill Cemetery. The chief mourners were Messrs. Patrick, Daniel, Eugene, Maurice, John and James Murphy (sons), Mr. E. Murphy (brother), Mrs. Bowen (sister), Mrs. W. O'Connell, and Miss Bowen (nieces), Mr. W. McLauchlin (secretary of the Heddon Jockey Club) officially represented the club at the funeral.
