William purchased land in Augusta County, Virginia in 1769. [2] Rev William was of Bedford Co, 2 Feb 1775. He bought land on North Bank of the Blackwater River, Bedford Co, Carolina Province in Orange County in 1755. He was a traveling minister. William returned in 1758 to the Banks of Banister; Halifax Co, VA., sold his land May 22, 1778 in Bedford Co and bought land in Halifax County, Virginia on Dec 1778. Sarah signed a document as a witness July 21, 1767 as Sarah Murphy. William left Tennessee in 1798 for Louisiana Territory with sons. He died en route home between New Orleans and Tennessee. Wm Murphy, Rutledge, Grainer Co., Tennessee .
