DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Rick or other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.

We are 6th cousins through Joseph Babin and Anne Marie Landry. What's interesting is that you share 58.4 cM with my dad at GEDmatch and your share 35 cM with me. Even for those with Acadian ancestry, that's a good amount of matching DNA for 6th cousins. Of course I have lots of lines that bring me to Landry and Babin names in my dad's family. I descend from Anne Marie's brother Augustin five different ways. I also descend from their father Pierre's sister Francoise.
But with your family staying up north and my family being down in Louisiana, we don't have any recent connections. Yet the DNA shows us as relatives.
