Biography

Mary was born about 1820. Mary Murphy immigrated with family in 1848 She passed away in 1870.

Cooper co. Records and grave stone, catholic cemetery Boonville mo. Multiple legal records and papers from her work with father Anthony and brother Doyle Murphy both attorneys. An invitation to a party in 1836 with an address and a return address, letters to and from her sister Mrs. Cadigan at Greenville mill, now a restaurant. It appears she was the "brains of the outfit" ! With multiple suitors. During the civil war she was a nurse, working in central Missouri, and as far away as Springfield Il. After a large battle there, gave flowers to the northern officers when they marched thru Boonville! Gave political comment when possible. MAny of her legal papers and personal letters still exist with references to family and clients for the legal work and property rental in Ireland done by her family. Quite a lady! I have no doubt, that Mary was the biggest single contributor to the Barron family and their success. With Her legal background in Ireland, she guided the family thru the business of running a mill which she had learned with her sister in Greenville Ireland, helped finance her sons farm down payment, Her letters all through the civil war to her family and friends showed a strong hand and gave good advice. I have no photograph of her though letters mention one, just after the civil war. Should anyone have any photographs , paintings, I dearly would love a copy! her father Anthony and brother Doyle were well known in Wexford, and Dublin both being attorneys, and I am hoping this might ring a bell with someone! • Cooper co. Records and grave stone. , Sources are very hard, when the "bread box " full of letters starting in 1826 and progressing thru the early 1900s are read. These letters, and photos are very delicate, some only readable with great effort, some not at all. Our family kept all letters it seems, some important documents, civil war correspondence, promotions, Most is mundane, letters from Ireland describe conditions/ politics there, from 1848 thru the 1860s, but anytime someone died, got married, got a new job, it was in a letter, the problem is the reader was expected to know by the first name who was being discussed. I think there is one or two Marys in every generation! So when it says documentation is needed, what am I to do? These letters are the bulk of my information. Two I have photo shoped and are on the Fredricktown (Madison county Mo. ) web site as some family immigrated there in 1851, they are still difficult to read, and script has changed since 1850s!
