The son of Daniel Murray Sr and Eliza (Bowen) Murray, William Murray was born in Adrian Township, Michigan[citation needed] in 1838. He moved with his family to Reading Township, in adjacent Hillsdale County, taking up farming there.[1][2]
William married Marietta (Balcom) Murray, the daughter of Abner Balcom and Harriet Aldrich, marrying in Allen Township, Michigan on January 29, 1862[citation needed] and having seven known children together. They made their home in Reading Township, farming.[3]
Widowed in 1879 after his wife's death in childbirth,[citation needed] William remarried, marrying Laura Ann (Northop) Murray, the daughter of Hiram Olmstead Northrop and Laura Ann Balcom , and a second cousin to his first wife. William and Laura married in Hillsdale County, Michigan on November 9, 1882,[4] taking up residence together at William's farm home in Reading.[5][6][7]
Widowed a second time in 1917, William lived in 1920 in Reading Township, with his youngest daughter, Edith, who did not marry, in his household.[8] William Murray passed away in Reading Township, Michigan[9] at the age of 85 and is buried at Old Maplewood Cemetery in Reading Township.[10]
