OBITUARY.
MR. WILLIAM MURRAY
It is with deep regret we report (says the Molong "Express") that another of the fine old pioneer settlers of this district, passed away at Orange on the 24th ulto., in the person of Mr. William Murray, at the age of 90 years. His decease marks the close of the history of the original Murray family, which since 1839, has been closely identified with the growth and development of this district— a family noted far and wide for its big-heartedness, independence and longevity. A native of Sutherland, Scotland, the late Mr. Murray in company with his parents, arrived in Australia when only six years of age, and immediately proceeded to Manildra district, taking up land in the vicinity of Gosling Creek, and later at The Meadows, on the Cargo road. Seized with the gold fever, Mr. Murray participated in the Hill End and Turon rushes, and later managed a cattle station on the Edwards River, in the south-western part of the State. Some 47 years ago he selected the property now known as Yarrangrove, in the Cumnock district, which is now held by one of his sons. Here his unbounded energy found expression, and he soon brought his land into a high state of productivity, and gained the high esteem of all with whom he came in contact by reason of his fine manly attributes. He married in 1878, and is survived by his widow and all his children— five sons and four daughters, the former being Messrs. Robert Sage (Cumnock), Walter George ("Norwich," Cumnock), William Beach ("Glenwood," Eurimbla), James Gordon ("Yarangrove," Cumnock), and John Wallace Murray (Mt. Druitt), and Mesdames D. O'Brien (Cumnock), R.L. Paddison (Baldry), J. L. Kirkwood (Lithgow), and J. F. Young ("Southwood," Cumnock.) The remains were conveyed to Cumnock and following a brief service in the Presbyterian Church, the long funeral cortege wended its way to the cemetery, where the last sad rites were performed by Rev. A. Crowley, B.A. Three of the sons of the deceased served their country in the Great War. [8]

His remains are interred in Cumnock Cemetery.[9]
