These European families split approximately 900 years ago . So these Murrays have used the surname Murray for almost 1,000 years.
According to the Scots Peerage this line of Murrays descended from the Murrays of Bothwell. This testing includes BigY700 NGS SNP testing as well as YDNA STR tests. Members tested include those from the branches of Murray of Cockpool ; Murray of Stanhope ; Murray of Philiphaugh and Falahill and tentatively Murray of Blackbarony.
