Russel Murray, Jr. was born December 15, 1906 to Russel Murray, Sr. and Emily Hopkins Grorestein in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. He joined the New York State National Guard, Company H 107th Inf. on November 23, 1934. He was an insurance salesman when he enlisted for World War II on February 10, 1941.
