Robert Murray born 1721 in County Armagh, Ireland, son of John Murray, entered as a native of Perthshire, Scotland (however this information has no source and is as yet unproven. Robert emigrated with his father and brother to Pennsylvania in 1732.[1]

Ulster birth is plausible, but questionable, and requires further research. ( Birth( was said to have been )in Scotland, as stated in the Pennsylvania Genealogies source listed below - (by) Michael Thomas (Thomas-10705)

Robert became a merchant in New York City, dying there in 1786. He had two sons, John Murray, who took over the business, and Lindley, who returned to England where he became a famous grammarian. He is buried in Holgate, England. [Records in the archives of Clan Murray, held by the U.S. Genealogist of the Clan, Michael Thomas]

From Pennsylvania Genealogies:Italic text

Robert came to America with his parents and lived in the Swatara area until about 1750, when he moved to North Carolina during the immigration rush. After a few years, he moved north to New York and became a merchant. He purchased a tract of land known as "Murray Hill" in the heart of New York City. It became historical as the spot where Robert's wife entertained Lord Howe and his officers long enough for American troops under Putnam to escape during the Revolutionary War.

Robert and Mary had 12 children in all, but only four were noted in the records - Lindley, John, Beulah, and Susan.
