John was born in 1854, and his birth was registered in the first quarter of 1855 in St George Hanover Square, London[1]. He was the son of Jeremiah Murrell and Martha Barrett.
John was baptised on 16 May 1855 at St Peter, Eaton Square, Pimlico, London. His father was a Tobacconist of Stockbridge Terrace[2].
His father passed away in 1860 at the age of 35.
In the UK Census of 1871, he was aged 16 and living with his widowed mother, Martha (48) and sister Jane Margaret (18) at 24 Stockbridge Terrace, in St George Hanover Square. Also in the household were Martha M A Sule, an 18 year old servant and one lodger, 41 year old unemployed Civil Engineer William Horton[3].
He emigrated from England to Australia, where he married Louisa Belton Lane in 1879 in Sandhurst, Victoria[4].
They went on to have eight children.
His mother died in England in 1882.
In the 1919 Australia Electoral Rolls he was recorded at 13 Sydenham Street, Moonee Ponds, Maribyrnong, Victoria with his wife Louisa and three children Annie Amelia, Edith Lucy and Harry James. He was a Pianoforte Tuner.
His wife died in 1924.
John was a Piano Maker of Moonee Ponds, Victoria when he passed away in 1926[5]. John was buried on 24 July 1926 at Fawkner Memorial Park, Fawkner, Moreland City, Victoria, Australia[6]. PLOT: Church Of England M, Grave 1173
His will was proved 10 September 1926 at Melbourne, Victoria[7].
