I see that you are following the G2G tag american_revolutionary_war. Some time ago a decision was made to standardize on 1776 as the tag for that war, and I've been retagging some posts that were tagged with american_revolutionary_war. I suggest that you add 1776 to your followed tags (you can do this at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following ).

Hi!

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Shirley Dalton, WikiTree Mentor

I don’t want to discourage you, but working on WikiTree takes a little getting used to. It's worth learning because it has so many wonderful genealogy tools. It really is a good idea to get used to working on WikiTree before having a huge number of profiles added with a gedcom. Please let me know if you're still not able to add your father. I can find a mentor to help you, or you can go to this page yourself and ask one for help: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Contact_a_Mentor

Welcome to WikiTree! I see that you've uploaded a couple of gedcoms. I strongly encourage you to spend some time on WikiTree, entering parents, grandparents, etc. and their siblings, by hand, learning a bit more about WikiTree, before you import a gedcom into WikiTree. When you add a gedcom and some of your people are already on WikiTree, and you correctly skip them, you end up having to go back and manually reconnect parents and children. If you don't skip them, then you have duplicates that have to be merged. I know it sounds like just uploading your gedcom to WikiTree might be faster, but those of us who have worked with WikiTree for some time have found in the long run it's often best to enter them manually. Let me know if I can help. Kay Wilson

A warm welcome to WikiTree, a genealogy site different than any other! You should have received an email from us with helpful links to get started.

Our goal is to have one single profile per person so that we have ONE big family tree and we collaborate together to make that happen.

Each volunteer at WikiTree adds to the collaborative tree at their own pace, there are no minimum requirements for time or entry.

When you volunteer, you indicate your interests by adding tags and comments and then one of our Greeters will confirm your membership.

Please check out our question of the week: Honoring USA Independence Day - Were any of your ancestors on the "wrong side" in a war?

Welcome to the family!
