Biography

Jacob was born about 1760 in Pennsylvania, son of Nicholas Myers. He married Hannah Smith and had children[1] :

  1. John [1][2]
  2. Philip [1][2]
  3. Henry [1][2]
  4. Elizabeth [1][2]

In 1796 he moved to Conewago Mills, and later to New Chester.[1]

He died on 17 Oct 1840 aged 82 years 1 month and 2 days, and was buried in the Bermudian Cemetery.[1][3]

The will of Jacob Myers of New Chester, Adams, PA, was made on 10 Oct 1840. The will names Jacob's four children - Elizabeth (married to Peter Myers) who was to inherit the house Jacob lived in and four lots in New Chester, and three sons John, Philip and Henry who were to inherit his farm in Cumberland County. The will was witnessed by Thomas McCreay and Henry Mortzell, and letters testamentary were granted to John, Philip and Henry Myers on 20 Oct 1840. [2]

Notes

  • The History of Cumberland and Adams Counties gives that Jacob was born in 1760 and died age 85.[1] It's assumed that these dates are estimates only, and that the record for Jacob (1758-1780) who is buried in Bermudian Cemetery[3] is the same Jacob.
  • Original profile identified him as Johan Jacob. No baptism record has been identified and there is no evidence that he ever had the name Johan.
