Biography

Benjamin Franklin Myers was born September 10, 1856 in Kossuth, Salem Township, Auglaize, Ohio. He died January 5, 1952 in Portland, Jay, Indiana.

Son of George Myers and Catherine Shumaker.

1860 United States Census, Salem Township, Auglaize, Ohio: George Myers is head of household, age 32, with wife Catharine Myers age 30, and children John G. age 7, Benjamin age 4, and Sophia F. age 4 months.

In 1880 Jay Co., Indiana, Madison Township, Benjamin is listed as a carpenter. He is living in his mother's home with her 2nd husband, Samuel Gamby, also a carpenter, and his sister, Sophia.

1st marriage: Benjamin Franklin Myers married Sevilla Mary Freshwater on July 9, 1882 in Jay, Indiana.

Children:

  1. George L. Myers (1883–Deceased).
  2. Lillian Belle Myers (1884–1938).
  3. Charles Myers (1887–1973).
  4. Myers (1888–Deceased).
  5. David Myers (1890–Deceased).
  6. Cecil Harry Myers (1892–1960).

1900 United States Census, Salem Township, Pulaski, Indiana: Benjamin Myers is head of household, a carpenter age 44, with wife Sevilla age 39, and children George L. Myers, a farm laborer age 18, Lillie I. Myers age 16, and Cecil H. Myers age 7.

2nd marriage: Benjamin Franklin Myers married Julia A. Brown on July 6, 1903 in Jay, Indiana.

In 1916 Benjamin and his brother, John, were living on a farm in Parrish, Florida. The family remembers Benjamin's farm as being a "fine farm."

1920 United States Census, Ellenton, Manatee, Florida: B. F. Myers is head of household, a carpenter age 64, with wife J. A. Myers age 59. Also in the home is son Cecil H. J. Myers, a millwright age 27 with his wife Catherine M. Myers age 26 and their children Albert T. age 6, Hazel age 5, Marguerite age 3, Marcella age 1, and Lillie Edna age 1 month.

Benjamin returned to Indiana following John's death on February 6, 1917.
