Obituary Mabel Dorothy [Nagle] McDonald passed away peacefully on March 14, 2004 with her family at her side at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, in her 93rd year. .

Beloved wife of the late Stewart McDonald [1989] of Appin. Dear mother of John and Lorraine of Glencoe, Beth and Charles O’Shea of Lucan and Bob and Margaret McDonald of London. Beloved grandmother of Stewart of Chatham, Julia and Stephen Van Spall of Vancouver, B.C. Dan and Heather O’Shea of London, Paul O’Shea of London and Ryan O’Shea of Lucan. Bradley, Michael, Jeff and Mary McDonald of London. Beloved great-grandma of Brendan and Emily Van Spall, Vancouver and Tara O’Shea of London.

Dorothy was born on September 19, 1911 on a farm in Caradoc Township outside of Melbourne at S1/2 of Lot4 R1S to Joseph Joshua Nagle [1947] and Emily Pearl Leitch [1947], also pre-deceased by one sister, Vera Pearl Nagle, [Richard], Buchanan [1991].

Dorothy attended the local schools in the Melbourne area. Upon graduation from London Normal School she taught in Caradoc and SS # 11,Aldborough. She later attended and graduated from Westervelt School of Business, London and subsequently took a job with a dentist in that city.

In June of 1941 Dorothy married Stewart and they began their life together on the farm in Ekfrid. Her years in Ekfrid were spent as a helpmate to Stewart, a support to her parents and in-laws, and a nurturing and loving mother to her children. Dorothy participated in the activities of the UCW of Appin and was, for many years, an avid curler with the Glencoe Curling Club, and always enjoyed the “500” and euchre games in Glencoe and Appin.

Dorothy moved to London in 1993 and since then has enjoyed living independently in an apartment at Chelsea Park until her recent illness.

At Dorothy’s request there will be no public visitation. Private funeral services conducted by Rev.Trish Elliott will be held in Glencoe at the Van Heck Funeral Home with interment at Appin Cemetery.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Dorothy will be held at the Appin United Church, Appin on Sunday March 28, 2004 at 2:00 PM. If desired, memorial contributions to the Appin United Church would be appreciated as an expression of your sympathy.
