(Her father's name was probably Jackson Nance; Andrew is probably a mistaken addition.) The record indicates that her usual place of residence at her death was 429 N. The Rev. Ernest Jones, pastor of the Methodist Church, preached the sermon. Burial was in the City cemetery. | The pallbearers were Pete VanMeter, Charles Carter, Floyd Thompson, Clayton Thompson, John Joiner, Arthur Rogers. | Mrs. Baker was born July 19, 1848, in Ray County, north of Richmond. An obituary for Eliza Ann Baker appeared in the 31 December 1942 issue of the Richmond Missourian of Richmond, Missouri. [14]
Mrs. Eliza Ann (Nance) Baker, aged 94 years, 5 months and 9 days, died at 2:25 p.m., Monday, December 28, 1942, from the infirmities of old age, but she had been seriously ill only a week. She died at the home of her daughter, Miss Daisy Baker, 429 North College Street.
She was born July 19, 1848, one mile north of Richmond, Mo., the daughter of Andrew Jackson Nance and Martha (Campbell) Nance, both of Tennessee. Both had come with their parents from Tennessee to Missouri in their youth.
She married George Washington Baker, July 5, 1868. Mr. Baker served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He died in 1902.
Mr. and Mrs. Baker were the parents of nine children, four of whom are deceased. The survivors are Geo. W. Baker, Jr., from north of Richmond; Mrs. Martha Cox, North College Street; Mrs. Wesley Johnson, north of Dockery; Mrs. Arch Carter, North College Street; and Miss Daisy Baker of the home. There are 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Baker had been a member of the Christian Union Church for many years. She lived in Ray County practically all of her life, having been educated in the old Cunningham private school in Richmond and in the Academy here.
Although she lived to be so very old, she was remarkable for her ability to get around, her clear mind and memory, and her keen interest in the present and the future.
The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Ernest Jones of the Richmond Methodist Church at the Brothers Funeral Home, yesterday at 2 p.m.
The pallbearers were Pete Van Meter, Charles Carter, Floyd Thompson, Clayton Thompson, John Joiner, and Judge Arthur W. Rogers.
Interment was made in the City (Richmond) Cemetery.
