Research note: Henry Anderson Nance was a prominent male in pre-Civil War Rienzi, Mississippi. Very likely that he came as a young man from North Carolina to the area near Rome, Georgia, during the 1830s around the time of the Cherokee Trail of Tears (1830s), along a multi-generational migration of Virginia families down the eastern edge of the Appalachian mountains. Nance is definitely a last name found in Virginia in previous generations. Check for links with the Word and Hooper families after the Revolutionary War!
