Biography

Born 1900 as Taylor McKinley Nance to William Andrew Nance and Betty Ann Bracken Burton in Woodleaf Township, Rowan County, North Carolina. [1] After serving in WWI he worked in the lumber and construction industry in Danville, Virginia. Here he married a former sweetheart and started a family. After serving in WWII he worked with the Veterans Administration as a heating and air conditioning mechanic at a variety of sites.

He married Mary Alice Buie of Davidson County, North Carolina in June 1922. The family story is that Mary Alice was providing nursing care for William Emsley Nance (Taylor's grandfather) who was in poor health, and thus met Taylor. Taylor and Mary Alice celebrated both their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries with friends and family in attendance. He died after an illness and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia with full military honors.[2]
