Lily May was born in 1891 to William Nankervis and Jane (Royle) Nankervis and was the youngest of four siblings.[1]
Lily never married.
In 1929 Lily opened "The Laurel" Cafe in Williamson Street, Bendigo
Countryman (Melbourne, Vic.: 1924 - 1929) Fri 22 Feb 1929 - Miss L. Nankervis has opened the "Laurel Cafe," Williamson-street, Bendigo, which is one of the most up-to-date cafes in Victoria. The three-course dinners and home-made cakes are a speciality. Private room for weddings and banquets. When in Bendigo call at the Laurel Cafe, and the staff will give you prompt attention.[2]
In 1933 Lily was in charge of the catering for the annual Hibernian Ball held in the Bendigo Town Hall. [3] Her cafe was engaged to handle the catering of many local events over the years, including wedding receptions.
In the 1954 Australian Electoral Roll she was living at 28 Reginald Street, Bendigo. Occupation - home duties[4]
In the 1963 Australian Electoral Roll she was living at 24A Rodney Street, Bendigo. Occupation - home duties.[5]
Lily May Nankervis died in 1979[6]
She is buried in the Bendigo Cemetery - Lawn 2, grave 45866, Interment 45866. Date of service 9 August, 1979[7]
