Archibald Napier was listed as the 7th child named in the will of his father, Booth Napier. Archibald appears on the 1761 Tithables for Booth Napier which means that Archibald was 16 years or a bit older making his birth around 1745. In 1763 he appears on the tithe list as Archer Napu, but is missing from the following two lists. Archibald appears on a few tithe list and court documents, but does not appear to have owned land.
Archibald marries Mary Hubbard on 6 January 1766 at St. James Northam Protestant Episcopal Church in Goochland, VA by Rev. William Douglas.
Not long after his marriage to Mary Hubbard, Archelaus Napier is summoned to court regarding his debts, but he did not appear for court. The court assessed him for 3lbs 14 shillings with interest from 1 August 1765 and court costs.
Mary and Archibald would have five children:
1. Jean Napier a daughter born May 19, 1766, possibly died young. Baptized Jan 8, 1768
2. James Kirk Napier a son named Ja: Kirk born Jul, 14, 1768. Baptized Aug 12, 1770
3. Fortunatus Napier born ca 1770-1774 Goochland, VA.
4. John Napier born ca 1780 Goochland Co., VA
5. Archibald Hubbard Napier born 23 September 1784. He lived to be 91 to 94 years old.
Archibald's name is shown with many different spellings throughout his life. The 1787 tax list for Fluvanna, VA has his name correctly, but in 1788 through 1794 he is listed as Archer. Most records show his name as Archer, once as Archilas and again as Archibald in 1795 Franklin, VA. He appears as Arch'd Napier in the 1810 census.
The 1815 Personal Property Tax List show Archibald Napier as Levy Free, with no figures.
