Biography

Elizabeth died in Wellington, New South Wales on 5 June 1903.[1][2][3][4]

Death of an old Resident. (Wellington Times, Mon 8 Jun 1903) Page 2

[2]The death of Mrs. Thomas Sutton, sen., of Montefiores, on Friday last, has removed from that ancient settlement one of its oldest inhabitants. The deceased lady had attained her 78th year, the cause of death being senile decay. With her husband she came to the country from England in 1850, and in the following year settled on a station west of Dubbo. Leaving there at the end of two years Mr. and Mrs. Sutton travelled a great portion of the western part of this State, and settled in Montefiores at the latter end of 1853. From then until the time of her death, with the exception of occasional short visits elsewhere, the life of the deceased lady was inseparable from her home in the old Wellington suburb. She was the mother of thirteen children, only five of whom survive her. Up till the last she retained all her mental faculties, and to within a few days of her decease could rehearse past occurring events as far back as 1850, and, indeed, incidents which occurred some years prior to her migration from England. She was an exemplary parent, whilst her 50 years' residence in Montefiores was a life of peace-promoting neighbourliness. Throughout her life the late Mrs. Sutton was always esteemed for her kindly actions and charitably-disposed nature. Sympathy on every hand is extended to the bereaved highly-respected husband and family. The remains were interred in the Church of Eugland cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the coffin carrying many beautiful wreaths. The Rev. Canon Barry Brown officiated at the grave, and the funeral arrangements were conducted by Mr. James Thompson.
